![]() Artist profileMICHAEL JOHNSON Fine artist Michael finds inspiration in Cubism, the 20th Century avant-garde art movement that revolutionised European painting and sculpture. Just as the Cubists broke up, reassembled and abstracted form, Johnston deconstructs objects and arrangements and reassembles the image, often depicting several viewpoints within one image. This technique allows him to play with the sense of depth and the viewer's interpretation of the picture plane. Michael has been painting a relatively short time and his inspiration and deepening involvement came at a time when due to a leg injury his wife Elaine asked him to illustrate a book she had written, called Physalis Seed. He lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne. |
